The Sudoku World Cup...

For any serious sudoku fans out there I came across a lovely little magazine (The Sudoku World Cup)exclusive to WHS at the weekend! It's full of the most popular puzzles from the 2007 sudoku world championships! There are some seriously difficult sudokus in there! Some I won't be able to attempt, but there are also plenty of other new variations I haven't seen before which are quite manageable and make a change from the usual variations. Definitely worth having a look at if you like a lot of variety.

Thanks for pointing this out - I shall have a look out for it when I go into town later.

Not sure I will be able to do any of them, but it is fun to try!

Do you find that sometimes understanding the instructions is difficult, nevermind doing the puzzle after? Or perhaps it is just me!!!

Remarkably I have found I can actually do some of the puzzles in it which is very satisfying, so thanks for the post Christine

Glad you're enjoying the book Steph! I'm still ploughing my way through it. Don't think I'm ready to join the world cup team yet! Like you say, it is satisfying isn't it when you manage to crack a new variety of puzzle. Have you any favourites? I really liked the little killer, once I got the hang of it and the distance one. Some of them I have just no idea how to begin.

I really like the puzzles I can do, and don't like so much the ones that I can't!

Yes the little killer is very nice.

Are there any puzzles where you don't quite understand what you are supposed to do or is it just me? I never got the hang of those skyscraper type puzzles.

Hi Steph, a rather belated reply to your post! Yes, there are quite a few puzzles in the book I can't do! This little mag has kept me going for hours, and I think I've managed about two thirds of the puzzles, but I can't get the hang of the skyscrapers either. I also can't do the Transfer (p19) Crossnumber (p35) the Quadruple, and Magic Square to name but a few! It's been great to try out a few brand new sudoku variants though. Makes a change from the usual ones.

Skyscraper puzzles are fun, but they certainly take a bit of getting used to... I find them very hard which makes it particularly satisfying when actually finishing one!
